5 Paisa Indian
India’s 5 Paisa coin, first introduced in 1964 after the phasing out of the “Naya” prefix, became a familiar part of everyday transactions during the 1960s–1980s. Originally minted in cupronickel and later in aluminum, it featured the national emblem and simple geometric designs, with the obverse showcasing the Lion Capital of Ashoka. The coin went through several shape transformations—round, square, and even scalloped—reflecting the changing aesthetics of Indian coinage. Though no longer in circulation, the 5 Paisa stands out for its nostalgic value and widespread use during the decades of India's rapid economic and cultural evolution.
