1 Paisa Indian
Issued after India adopted decimalisation in 1957, the 1 Naya Paisa coin marked a turning point in the nation's post-colonial monetary reforms. Minted in bronze or copper-nickel, it was worth 1/100th of a rupee, with “Naya” (meaning “new”) used to distinguish it from the earlier paisa of the anna system. Typically featuring the Lion Capital of Ashoka on the obverse and the coin’s value and date on the reverse, it was widely circulated until the “Naya” prefix was dropped in 1964. Though small in denomination, the 1 Naya Paisa holds significant historic value as a token of India’s financial modernization.
